keels of contention…
Our heroes who are inspiration to most of our democratic ideals, often are not democratic. Just who cares? They have attributes of folly that succeed in slaying the dragons…. In a democracy, there would have been an endless array of general meetings on why the dragons would have to be protected — or cut to pieces in times of famine…

Author: John Teale | Publisherheridan House | ISBN:157409050X | Pages:160 | Size:31.9 MB About the book There is nothing magical or particularly brilliant about designing a boat, and you don”t need to be an Einstein or a Leonardo da Vinci to sketch out the sort of craft that appeals to you. Indeed this first sketch that many potential owners will have made at some time is the most important part of a design. It needs only the bare bones to be fleshed out and some checks and balances to complete the design process. This may take a little time but it certainly isn”t difficult. And the same processes apply for a dinghy as well as a cruising yacht. John Teale takes the reader step-by-step through the stages of designing both power and sailing boats, while also explaining the reasons behind the process. Sketches and reproductions of working drawings are used throughout to help understanding so that by the end of the book even a first time designer”s effort can be translated by a builder into a sensible and workmanlike reality. Since it was first published, How to Design a Boat has proved itself a bestseller. The second edition simplifies several calculations and introduces new designs. About the author John Teale is a naval architect. He was technical editor of Motor Boat & Yachting for some years. His design work has ranged from fast power boats and motor cruisers, to passenger ferries, fishing boats and cruising yachts. Virtually all his designs are “one-offs” and have been built all over the world.

A sailboat or sailing boat is a boat propelled partly or entirely by sails. The term covers a variety of boats, larger than small vessels such as sailboards and smaller than sailing ships, but distinctions in size are not strictly defined and what constitutes a sailing ship, sailboat, or a smaller vessel (such as a sailboard) varies by region and culture.

Sailing is the art of controlling a boat with large (usually fabric) foils called sails. By changing the rigging, rudder, and sometimes the keel or centre board, a sailor manages the force of the wind on the sails in order to change the direction and speed of a boat. Mastery of the skill requires experience in varying wind and sea conditions, as well as knowledge concerning sailboats themselves.

The first sailing boat had been built by Kompan Marine in 1990. This was the competitive Premier-31 developed by designer Dmitry Vasiliev. Carried along above the project the company collaborators, among whom many real sailing professionals could be found, brought in a set of radical changes so the boat has raced in a worthy on? Ton IOR Class World Championship. A number of the technological novelties applied have involved foreign partners which helped to get acquainted with the most advanced achievements and technologies of the world boatbuilding. Since then the technological novelties became a company distinctive feature and all project prototypes are the sport ones. All-to-Victory built the boats undergo both a maximum loading and the most stiff maintenance as well as new engineering solutions and units testing. The desire to build sailing boats at a level of the best world ones resulted in long and laborious work on studying and testing of various materials and their combinations in the units and designs. An unique experience has been accumulated in application of the Russian high-modulus fibers coupled with the best world-wide cohesive resins. A method of pneumatic hot-pressing of seamless aramide fiber-base composite profiles has been developed and mastered in serial production in 1996. It has allowed to organize the manufacture of the advanced and promising carbo and glass reinforced plastic spar such as carbon masts, booms, bowsprits, stanchions etc.
