I keep stumbling on these news stories with a common theme: asset strippers hidden in the sheep’s clothing of private equity firms. The stories rhyme a lot with what’s been going on with the bank bail outs.

You probably first want to know, what exactly is an asset stripper? Pretty much what it sounds like – a buyer whose intent is to sell off assets for a profit. The buyer in this case is a private equity firm who relies on leverage buyouts in the hopes of selling the company for a profit. What’s missing is an incentive for the long term survival of the original company.

Sponsorship is a fickle business. At the beginninng of the year, Aviva was one of our standout examples of how sponsorship and the activation of sponsorship using sailing should be done. Their backing of Dee Caffari was leveraged across all kinds of media and Dee played her part – achieving the goal of being the first woman to sail n0n-stop around the world in both directions. Since then, the UK’s largest insurance group has gone through a kind of brand rebirthing process and sailing is no longer a priority of the marketing folks.

Diamond Bank Nigeria Plc has laid claim to ownership of the controversial Sunborn Yacht Hotel in Lagos State.

Since the Hotel arrived the shoreline of Lagos State, there had been raging controversies as to who owns it, with the Lagos State Government consistently denying ownership of the multi-million naira state of the art hotel now on the Lagoon.

NORTH SHORE WALK FOR PARKINSON’S DISEASE. Saturday, Oct. 17. The three-mile walk will start at the First Church Congregational, 40 Monument Ave., Swampscott.
