In the north east, the sailing season is coming to an all-to-rapid close. The weather this past weekend was great if you like heavy air (and I do) but I had too many other items on my to-do list to get out on the water. But, at 6:00PM Sunday I was irritated and cranky at having done other things all day, so I (mentally) said “the Hell with it” and went sailing.
I have DMed a campaign that took place mostly on the open seas (using the Stormwrack supplement, which is still one of my favorite sourcebooks) and DMed another Spelljammer joint using the Dragon mag/Polyhedron write up along with my old materials for fluff, and played in another nautical game as player where the group tried their hardest to be pirates (but we just could not find the easy marks ;; )

They raced as one class for the hotly contested Christmas turkey (awarded for second place) as well as the more usual trophies.
Even open XOD and YOD boats, many of whom are normally laid up this late in the season, entered this very popular event.

Normally there are 300 sea lions at Pier 39 this time of year. There are now nearly 1,500, and the Hyde Street commercial fishing pier has a problem. Hyde Street harbormaster Hedley Prince has counted as many as сто sea lions crowding his docks since August.
Swimmers and kayakers increasingly report being bumped and sometimes bitten by the 1,000-pound animals. More sea lions mean more tangles with fishing hooks and potential water-quality concerns (the Department of Public Health and Public Utilities Commission are reviewing recent data).
